Biology of the bifidobacteria
Bifidobacteria have characteristic morphology, physiology, biochemical characteristics, cell-wall constituents, and DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) base composition. They are found in the intestinal tract of human infants and adults, in the human vagina and mouth, and in the alimentary tracts of various animals. There are human and non-human species and biotypes.
