Second Life of the Residential Building Area of the Middle of the 50s—Early 80s of the Twentieth Century in Ukraine: Opportunities and Perspectives

The object of scientific research is the residential buildings of the mid-1950s and early 1980s. The residential environment of that period is predominant in the central historical districts of most Ukrainian cities. The purpose of this publication is to analyze the domestic housing environment of the mid-50s and early 80s of the twentieth century, to find out its status and to find the solution about their future existence. The novelty of this work is to identify such methods of modernization of residential areas of the outlined period, which could be adapted during the experimental design into the existing living environment of the modern city, in particular—Poltava (Ukraine). The study provided on two levels—theoretical and empirical. The author’s proposals for one of the residential quarters of the central part of Poltava (Ukraine) are novelty for both inhabitants and authorities. Their practical importance lies in the possibility of introducing real positive changes in the quality of the living environment, physical, and moral conditions of its buildings and territories.
