In an ideal world, monetary considerations would not be a factor in the delivery of healthcare. However, whether it is government that manages a healthcare system, private entities, or a combination of both, the economic cost/benefit of healthcare decisions becomes an important metric of success to ensure the highest quality health outcomes for the maximum number of people regardless of existing economic limitations. While the cost of a needed healthcare service is easy to quantify, the same cannot always be said of attempts to quantify benefit. Insufficient knowledge of both cost and benefit may result in less than optimal outcomes. This chapter explores the use of objective digital healthcare data that helps ensure that all stakeholders possess the necessary information required for cost-efficient and outcomes effective healthcare decisions.
