Numerical Field Propagation Between Parallel Planes

In this chapter, we discuss numerical techniques to simulate the most basic field propagation, i.e., the field propagation between parallel planes. There are several techniques in this category, such as single-FFT propagation, and convolution-based techniques. In any technique, restrictions as well as pros and cons are discussed from the aspect of aliasing errors produced in the numerical calculation in many cases. Not only formulas but also plenty of visualized examples of diffracted wavefields are presented in this chapter. The contents are most likely useful for researchers and engineers who deal with wave optics and holography.
