Adolescents Instead of Adolescence: Beyond Phases and Developmental Tasks

While some researchers look at adolescence as a stage or phase, in this chapter, I will examine the shortcomings of stage models and so-called universal developmental tasks within certain life phases. What do we lose sight of when conceptualizing development in this way? By introducing alternatives, it is shown that individual trajectories must not be overlooked when discussing the needs of adolescents.
