Abstract

This chapter focuses on the analysis of vaccine efficacy data. Special attention is given to the analysis of person-time or time-to-infection data. Four different approaches are presented, an exact one, two asymptotic ones (Poisson regression and Cox regression) and a new one, based on bootstrapping. The assumptions underlying them are inspected. Further, a new vaccine efficacy estimator is introduced here for the first time. This estimator does not require any distributional assumptions and is based on an estimator that is quickly gaining popularity, the Nelson–Allen estimator.
