Abstract

The idea of shelving was presented by Dehmelt [52, 53]. It is a way to provide evidence for fundamental principles of quantum theory and also to measure frequencies of photons with an unprecedented accuracy. This uses the property of what is called Paul’s trap, a device that keeps almost motionless a single charged particle like an ion.
