Annual to biennial wetland herb, often tufted. Stem erect to ascending, branched from the bottom, without runners, 20–80 cm high. Leaves elliptical with hairs orientated to leaf apex. Numerous flowers in rich terminal cymes. Wheel-shaped blue corolla, 3.5– 4.5 mm across. Calyx with appressed hairs throughout, calyx teeth long, pointed. Fruit is a wide ovoid nutlet.
