Abstract

Focusing on the struggle to re-open the archives of formerly repressive Cold War regimes in Latin America, this chapter critically analyzes how opening Cold War state security archives relates to the work of concretizing democratic aspirations in Latin America. The social struggles over winning access to the archives of formerly repressive regimes, Weld argues, can be as valuable to the work of liberation as the contents of the files themselves.
