Arnold Schwarzenegger – The Strong Man of Environmentalism

  • László Erdős

The movie icon and former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is recognised as a global leader in the fight against climate change. As Governor of California he took significant steps to reduce the state’s greenhouse gas emissions, fought for stricter fuel-efficiency standards, and initiated a network of hydrogen filling stations and a large-scale installation of solar panels. Schwarzenegger appeared with Bill Nye in ‘Global Meltdown,’ a National Geographic documentary exploring climate change. He advocates reducing meat consumption, as livestock breeding contributes to global warming. Schwarzenegger founded R20 – Regions of Climate Action, a non-profit organisation with the aim of combatting climate change at sub-national levels.
