From Informality to “New Nollywood”: Implications for the Audience
The Nigerian film industry has been evolving since the colonial era till the present. This chapter examines the evolution of Nigerian film industry and focuses on Nollywood, which emerged from an informal industry and developed to the New Nollywood phenomenon. It critically explores the rise of the film industry from its informal status to its present state. It analyses the role of different factors and players in Nollywood’s growth and shows how its evolutionary trajectories have impacted audience perception and interaction.
