Prescription for Urban Sprawl. Street Activeness Changes the City

In this study, we propose an agent-based model (ABM) that expresses simplified urban dynamics and verify how policies that affect the daily travel of urban residents change an urban structure toward a desirable form indirectly. The policies include introduction of a public facility where residents stop off during their daily life, a promotion of street activeness around the facility, and transport policy such as introduction of tramway in an urban central area. As a result, we clarified significant differences of improvement effects on an urban structure depending on the location of the facility, the implementation scale of a promotion of street activeness around the facility, and also demonstrated the synergy between such a promotion and transport policy.
