Abstract

This chapter presents a discussion on pensions and risks, both to savers and to the economy. Topics include the Musgrave rule and the various types of risks emanating from pension schemes: labour-market related and macroeconomic, political, investment, longevity and fertility, bankruptcy, and intergenerational risks. The chapter also describes de-risking strategies and a novel measure of retirement risk.
