We Should Be Worried, About Being Worried!
It is my observation that in the operating room, we should be worried about being worried. What are the synonyms for worry? To be concerned, be anxious, agonize, brood, dwell on, panic, lose sleep, become worked up and get flustered over a problem either real or imagined. The underlying emotion here is fear. Fear comes in many forms in the operating room, and we have all been there: audible arterial injury, an ACL tunnel blowing out, losing fixation at a critical moment and equipment unavailability at a crucial time.
