The Science of Small Solar System Bodies

On February 15, 2013, the city of Chelyabinsk, Russia was struck by a small rocky body about 20 m in diameter. The body exploded at a height of about 30 km above the ground. The resulting shockwave broke windows in over 7000 buildings and injured more than 1500 people. Some of the body survived the trip through Earth’s atmosphere and made it to the surface.
