Abstract

This chapter opens Part II, shifting the focus of the volume to different examples of Spectral Educational Trauma, beginning with the elimination of PLAY from the schools and free time of youth. This elimination is one cause of increased mental health problems in youth. Additionally, using PLAY to heal emotional problems in people of all ages, including whole communities, is one way of mitigating Educational Trauma. Withholding opportunities for youth to play is an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) that contributes to poor long-term outcomes. The benefits of increasing PLAY in education are noted, and include increased creativity, healing, health and well-being, critical thinking, collaboration, and spontaneity. The dramaturgical consciousness (Rifkin, 2016) can also be refined through PLAY, and serves as one facilitating way for humanity to evolve. Safety concerns around free PLAY are analyzed, and the research behind PLAY is also presented. Finally, solutions for gaming education in various ways are offered.
