Abstract

A calorimeter contains \(\, 0.8~\mathrm{kg}\) of water and \(\, 0.2~\mathrm{kg}\) of ice in equilibrium at \(\, 0\,^{\circ }\mathrm{C}\). A one-kilogram piece of iron, initially at \(\, 100\,^{\circ }\mathrm{C}\), is dropped into the water.
