Buddhism and German-Jewish Orientalism

Part of the Palgrave Series in Asian German Studies book series (PSAGR)

The chapter discusses literature on German Orientalism and the extent to which contemporary research on postcolonial theory can or cannot be useful for exploring German Jews’ reaction to Buddhism. Subchapters elaborate on Jewish Orientalism, on the prosthetic function of Buddhism, and on the permeable boundaries between the designations German, Jewish, and Buddhist.
