  • Herpes zoster infection in form of Shingles is characteristic of stage 2 HIV infection

  • Shingles usually appears in HIV patients when CD4+ counts are between 350–400/μL

  • Diagnosis of Shingles is primarily clinical though PCR and direct fluorescent antibody testing (DFA) of vesicular fluid can help confirm the diagnosis
