Chinese Cultural Concepts and Their Influence on Management

Abstract

The Chinese nation’s culture is extensive, profound and of long standing. Chinese culture and Chinese-style management have received much attention and have become topics of interest in both business and academic contexts in China and abroad. With the pace of China’s global expansion, it is of practical significance to study Chinese culture from the perspective of management, using this knowledge to enrich modern business management theories and guide business activities. Focusing on the grand system of the traditional culture of China, this chapter interprets Chinese-style management concepts, expounds their application in business activities and analyses various management styles, which may have debatable value in African contexts. The performance and consequences of these Chinese-style management behaviours are discussed, and strategies and recommendations are provided to both Chinese and Western managers in global cooperation.
