Urinary Conduit

This chapter describes the creation of a urinary conduit performed with an open technique. The text includes an introduction that outlines the indications, risks, alternatives, essential steps, equipment required, and variations in technique for the procedure. This is followed by a template operative dictation, which provides the reader with an operative reports, as found in a patient chart or electronic medical record. A description is provided of the following critical concepts for the procedure such as ensuring adequate drainage of the conduit and selecting an appropriate piece of intestine to use for the conduit.
