Abstract

In the last two decades 3D printing has progressed from a niche laboratory-based technology into a valuable resource that can provide significant commercial benefits for manufacturing. 3D printing offers some truly unique capabilities for manufacturers, and this book focuses on the implications and opportunities for effective operations management. This chapter serves to provide context for the work, highlighting the role of each contributing chapter in achieving the overall objective of the book.
