Abstract

The existence of two dimensional (2D) superconductivity (SC) in the CuO\(_2\) planes of the cuprates has been demonstrated by either isolated CuO\(_2\) sheets (Hetel et al. in Nat Phys 3:700, 2007 [1]; Božović et al. in Nature 536:309, 2016 [2]), or in bulk, in zero magnetic field  (Li et al. in Phys Rev Lett 99:067001, 2007 [3]) or by applying one perpendicular to these planes (Baity et al. in Phys Rev B 93:024519, 2016 [4]; Zhong et al. in Phys Rev B 97:134520, 2018 [5]).
