In order to ensure the long term stability of transboundary water cooperation in the European Union a broad range of measures and actions can be  recommended. These include the comperensive consideration of hydropolitical vulnerabilities in the EU at all relevant levels of supranational decision-making, the open discussion of issues relating to transboundary water allocation, introduction of robust crossborder drought management mechanisms, the expansion of the EU’s water-related dispute settlement toolkit or the strengthening of cooperation among all supranational actors of transboundary water governance in the European Union.
