Three Classic Tuna Wars

Abstract

Tuna was money, big money. Money was power. Tuna also had a direct military strategic importance. Salted tuna had a long shelf life, making it a practical food on board ships and for the army on land. So it’s not surprising that tuna amphorae were found where armed conflicts had taken place. Those conflicts were to result in the greatest wars of ancient times.
