Effective Perioperative Consultation

Perioperative medicine consultations contribute to the value and safety in a patient’s surgical episode of care. Application of the following time-tested key consultative concepts enhances the effectiveness of clinical care—defining the clinical question, establishing urgency, understanding the role of the medical consultant, independent review, collaborative communication, and appropriate follow-up.
