Introducing the Method Transformation Theory in Educational Practice

Much remains unknown regarding the ways of implementing transformative learning (TL) in educational settings. Most of the publications that attend to educational practices toward TL are not consistently connected with a relevant theoretical framework. This situation appears more problematic regarding how teaching activities are associated with Mezirow’s Transformation Theory. This occurs due to the fact that Mezirow was primarily concerned with elaborating on a general learning theory of perspective transformation rather than with describing instructional methods that foster TL. This state of affairs has led to the development of the teaching method Transformation Theory in Educational Practice, which is grounded in Mezirow’s perspective but also combines it with relevant views of TL scholars. The method is discussed in this Chapter with reference to a pilot implementation.
