Occlusion and Its Relation to Peri-Implant Diseases
Occlusal “overload” on implants is poorly defined. Occlusal stress on implants has been related to both early and late implant failure. Occlusal stress can cause materials and, possibly, biologic failure. Occlusal forces should be placed on the long axis of the implant to minimize stress on the bone-implants integrated surface.
