Dominant Values of Family Purposefulness

Abstract

This article sets out data of empirical study of dominant values of family purposefulness depending on some sociodemographic factors (sex and presence/absence of own family according to age). The research comprised: 50 girls and 50 boys at the age from 15 to 18; 50 women at the age from 21 to 44 and 45 men at the age from 20 to 42, being married and raising children. A computer program of Osgood semantic differential methods modified by I. L. Solomin was used. In accordance with the research objective there were selected: (1) categories of notions related to family life (people and groups, events, activities and ideal conceptions; (2) notion-markers defining core values, life stages, people, groups of people and attitude to them, gender concepts, activities, emotional experience and events. Dependence of dominant values on the sex factor is revealed. Thus, the value of “my future family” is prevalent for girls and the value “my future wife” is prevalent for boys. The common value “birth of a child” is prevalent for men and women being married and raising children. Theoretical and practical relevance of the research is defined by the objectives of the system research of psychosemantic integrity of the family purposefulness findings of which will allow efficiency of complex sociodemographic programs to be improved.
