The March of Brothers and Sisters for God’s Cause
At the time of my arrival in Canada, there was a terrible turmoil between the Doukhobors and the government. This discord arose because of the land issue since the land in Canada was being distributed through signing up with agents. Every person accepting a land plot had to register his name, patronymic and last name. This registry happened in an agent’s office, where it was required to make a promise of sort, like a pledge, in particular for a three-year lease and living on the land. The land had to become the property of the owner, and a document was provided by the government certifying that the land, indeed, had become the property of the owner.
