Abstract

Fez is supposed to have its own style, the Arab-Andalus one. However, both foreigners and Moroccans play with this style in the way they decorate and furnish their house. There are six main styles in Fez, whose overview shows that furniture and decoration matter. In addition to these styles, informants said they followed multiples guidelines in furnishing and decorating their house. These styles and guidelines allow them making judgements when talking about others’ furniture and decoration and making differences between groups. If several criteria support these judgements, taste is an important principle in furnishing and decorating and a criterion in judging other’s interiors.
