Robotic Sleeve Gastrectomy: How I Make It

Abstract

In view of the worldwide obesity epidemic, and with the understanding of the metabolic component of bariatric surgery, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy has emerged as a highly effective operation in the treatment of morbid obesity, with results approaching those of the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass when weight loss, complications, control and resolution of comorbidities, and other parameters are measured. The robotic surgery technological revolution has led to the adoption of the robotic platform by bariatric surgeons and the refinement of the technique in order to perform a robotic sleeve gastrectomy, which has been found to have similar results to its laparoscopic counterpart and, in some instances, improved and promising outcomes while cost is constantly reduced with proper judgment and team training.
