Thermal Analysis of Magneto-Rheological Brake for Two Wheelers

Abstract

The steady-state temperature distribution in the two-disk Magneto Rheological Brake is used to verify that the maximum heat build-up maintained in the brake is within the operating temperature range of the chosen Magneto-Rheological Fluid, 40 C to +130 C. As Two Wheeler Rear wheel rotational speed increases, there is a significant temperature rise of the Magneto Rheological Brake is observed, due to this Temperature Rise There is significant disintegration of the Magneto-Rheological fluid particle chains occurs in the presence of a magnetic field. This leads to an uncontrolled reduction of the yield point of the non-Newtonian liquid, and thus the braking torque noticeably declines. The overheating is dangerous as the high temperature may melt the coils of insulation, and the Magneto-Rheological fluid changes its properties at high temperature which is not desirable. The overheating of the Magneto Rheological Brake is 35degree Celcius of the surface of the housing, which is around 70degree celsius of the temperature of the fluid inside the Magneto Rheological Brake.
