Design and Development of Constrain Based XY Flexural Mechanism

Abstract

XY flexure mechanism provides a wide range of motion and it can be used in many applications. In flexural mechanism accuracy and precision are major concerns. Controlled motion is obtained by reducing errors and backlash. In this paper, design, development and experimental analysis have been presented. In the preliminary stage, numerical analysis has been done on the CAD model of XY flexure mechanism using ANSYS software and then in next stage, the numerical values have been compared with experimental values of deflection by performing experimentation on flexure mechanism using dial gauge setup. The experimental setup consists of a dial gauge, weight pan, weights, and thread-pulley setup to support and hold the weight pan. In the last stage of the project, force-deflection characteristics have been plotted using numerical and experimental values of deflection. The maximum distance that the mechanism can travel in X and Y direction is 1.12 mm. In force deflection characteristic plots the curve of deflection in X and Y direction having a close match
