Enhancement of Stabilization Pond for Nitrification and Denitrification of Sewage
The failure in sewage collection, treatment and disposal processes is mainly due to fluctuations in quantity and quality of sewage generated from urban areas. The difficulty in achievement of desired permissible limits for parametric values set by governing authorities’ leads towards pollution of surface and subsurface water sources. The pollutional parameters like BOD, COD and DO along with nutrient concentration in treated and untreated sewage is the cause of pollution of surface water bodies. The nitrogen compound as a nutrient is prime responsible for eutrophication over surface water bodies in urban and semi urban areas. The present study ensures suitability of developed study model to treat sewage to reduce parametric values of BOD, COD along with the de-nitrification efficiency. The observed parametric values for inlet and outlet of the developed model shows 97% of BOD removal, 96% of COD reduction and 71% of de-nitrification rate.
