Evolution of Porous Polyethylene Ear Reconstruction

The technique of porous polyethylene ear reconstruction has evolved over the past three decades to optimize outcomes. Over time, all aspects of the reconstruction including the implant, soft tissue coverage, instrumentation, postoperative care, anesthesia, and hearing loss have been modified and improved. In this chapter, we will shed some light on all these changes and the rationale behind those changes. Hopefully, this chapter will help shorten a surgeon’s learning curve.
