Case Studies of Socio-Political Change in Some of the Developing Nations

  • Ronald M. Glassman

The cases of: India, China, Venezuela, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Spain are discussed and analyzed, in terms of: the emergence of advanced capitalism, the new middle class, democratic or despotic cultural traditions, and specific historical peculiarities. The case of Spain is presented as a model for hope, where a few short years ago Spain seemed hopelessly anti-democratic.
