Fracture Surface Analysis of the EN AW-2017A-T4 Specimens with Rectangular Section
This paper presents an analysis of the state of fatigue fracture surface in specimens with rectangular cross-section. The specimens were made of EN AW-2017A-T4 aluminium alloy and had an external, unilateral, sharp and blunt one-sided notches, with the of radius ρ = 0.2 mm, 5 mm, 10 mm and 22.5 mm. Fatigue test subjected to bending, torsion, and proportional bending with torsion for stress ratio R = −1, −0.5, 0 were carried.
Fracture surfaces were observed using the focus variation microscope, which allows the acquisition of data sets with large depth of focus.
Influence of notches radius ρ, loading ratio r, stress ratio R and form of fatigue (LCF or HCF) on the fracture surface of EN AW-2017A-T4 was investigated. The authors especially focused on presenting the differences of roughness parameters of fracture propagation and rupture areas, caused by bending, torsion, and bending with torsion.
