Breaking Down Barriers to Collaboration in Military Satellite Systems

The current state of the military satellite command-and-control enterprise consists primarily of so-called “stove-piped” acquisitions that provide a complete end-to-end capability to operate a single satellite system, and which typically must be recreated for each new satellite system. In this paper we present several techniques and technologies that we believe can help address challenges of acquiring and operating these types of systems. We will focus on two phases of satellite command and control and show how the adoption of existing commercial technologies can be used to increase the pace of collaboration.
