Abstract

There are a number of different reasons as to why you might need to do a presentation in front of an audience. As a research scientist, you might want to share knowledge or discuss certain issues or sell your ideas or promote a piece of technology. The goal of this chapter is to give you practical tips on how to plan, develop and ultimately deliver an effective presentation. As such, I will be focusing on what you should do during the:
  1. 1.

    Pre-preparation phase

  2. 2.

    Planning phase

  3. 3.

    Construction phase

  4. 4.

    Delivery phase

I will also give you tips on how to improve your craft as a presenter, such as how to improve your ability to engage with an audience, deal with nerves and improve future performances.
