The EU Energy Discourses on the Russian Federation in 2004–2014

  • Lukáš Tichý
Chapter

Abstract

This chapter consists of a detailed examination of the individual discursive approaches—namely, the integration, liberalisation and diversification energy discourses—of the EU and their comparison for the years 2004–2014. In all three cases, this chapter researches the basic themes and the perception of Russia by the EU. At the same time, within the framework of these three EU energy discourses, the treatise observes the relation of norms and values to the position of the EU in external energy relations and thus also their impact on the formation of the identity, interests and goals of the EU and the tools, framed by intersubjectivity, which it uses to fulfil them. Last, but not least, the chapter compares the differences and similarities of all three EU energy discourses with regard to their content and the tracked concepts. A temporal comparison of the discourses in the two periods of 2004–2009 and 2010–2014 is also provided.
