Abstract

The invention of the microprocessor (initially called microcomputer) by Intel in 1971 was a revolution in computing, with the power of a computer now available on a tiny microprocessor chip. The invention of the microprocessor made handheld calculators and personal computers (PCs) possible. Intel’s microprocessors are used on most personal computers and laptops around the world.
