The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a network of satellites that orbit the earth. It is owned by the US government and operated by the US Air Force, and it is used for civilian, commercial, and military purposes. It provides real-world geographic information including location (three-dimensional position), timing, velocity, and navigation information to users who are equipped with a GPS receiver (e.g., a mobile phone). It may be used anywhere in the world irrespective of weather conditions, where there is an unobstructed line of sight of at least four GPS satellites.
