Boson Statistics in Blackbody Radiation
We are all acquainted with the observation that many materials glow when heated. This light is produced when excited atoms drop between energy levels, and when charges accelerate as they bounce among lattice atoms. The electromagnetic theory of just how a flame’s hot gas emits light is complex; but, given that a huge number of charges give rise to the emitted light, it can be expected that statistical mechanics can be used to investigate the phenomenon.
