  • Eric M. HaasEmail author

Practice management is an important concept that covers all operations of a physician’s practice outside of the operating room. Effective practice management ensures the physician is able to practice surgery in an environment that fits their needs personally, professionally, and financially. In this chapter, the major principles of practice management are covered, including the philosophies of different practice models, compensation, billing and reimbursement, practice setup, and considerations when moving between practice models. Knowledge of these tenets is important for every colorectal surgeon to make informed decisions about their career.
