Abstract
Owing to the calcification and ossification of its extracellular compartment, the bone is converted into an extremely hard structure enabling optimal implementation of its four major functions. The bone and the marrow are closely interrelated organs. They share the same vascular system, and there are many interrelations between stromal elements and cellular lineages (e.g. monocytes and osteoclasts).
