The Role of Grain Boundaries in the Plastic Deformation of Calcium Fluoride

Abstract

Experimental evidence on the plastic deformation of single crystals of calcium fluoride is used to predict the behavior of polycrystalline calcium fluoride. The predictions are compared with experiment, and the role of grain boundaries in determining the brittleness at low temperatures is emphasized.
