Mixing Effects in Continuous Crystallization
Factors influencing size distribution in well-back-mixed crystallizers have been extensively studied with considerable success. Valuable information has been found concerning production size equipment. Unfortunately, in large systems good backmixing is seldom if ever achieved. In fact, it is often purposely avoided, and as a result improvements in size distribution are achieved. Therefore, the question that arises is can any significant analysis be made of a system which is not perfectly backmixed which will give any insight on how the mixing conditions effect the distribution (1).
