Throughout the development of microwave technology, designers and manufacturers have constantly been confronted with complex problems. These problems dealt not only with using new materials, but also with the design process itself. In order to take into account phenomena such as dispersion, losses and coupling, as well as the automation of the design process and the introduction of MMICs, designers have to be rigourously methodical. This means microwave equipment designers need the assistance of CAD tools throughout the design process, from the system’s functional specification stage to the detailed physical design of each chip or hybrid component.
