Group dynamics: the evolution of a group

Abstract

Groups that come together regularly over a period of time change and develop. They evolve through certain stages and experience identifiable feelings, preoccupations and behaviours as they develop. These stages are not necessarily sequential, nor will all stages be experienced by every group. A group may miss a stage or return to an earlier one, and stages can overlap where behaviours normally associated with different stages occur within the same group. Despite this, every group faces certain developmental issues as part of its ongoing dynamics.
